Handling the equipment

When we were carrying the equipment we made sure that the camera was in its case and not on the tri-pod. When we were filming we would make sure shows that the camera is level and that we did not touch it unless we were panning to prevent joging it and creating a wobbly shot.

Backing Music for the rough cut

On the rough cut I compose the music to make the audience make the fell what I want them to. For example I made it scary music when it needed to be and I also made so it is sad music once the victim dies. I added in sound effects for the gun shots as we filmed with BB-guns which doesn't make any sound. I found this quite difficult as I could not always find what exactly what I wanted. I would have preferred to compose the music on a keyboard.

Creating the Blood

When I made the blood in the thriller, i did a few experiments keeping in mind that everyone in our group wanted the blood to be able to wash off. So after a few experiments I decided to use powder paint as the main ingredient. What follows here is the list of ingredients that I used, and the ruff amount of the ingredients.
  • Red Powder paint about 80%
  • Black powder paint about 10%
  • porridge oats about 5%
  • About 1% of washing up liquid
  • The rest of it was water.
These ingredients I mixed together, in a jar, making it a thick blood like texture, sealing it in a Jar I put it in a microwave for a few seconds to create a vacuum and so the ingredients would not separate straight away.

Rough cut movie R2-52

This is our rough cut on our thriller. We kept to the 180 degree rule. There are two people acting in this thriller; and they are Angle and Phil. The camera man, director, stunt co-ordinator, editor and composer is done by Steve. Tim also did some editing. I tried to make the music go with the intensity of the movie to create the mood.

I think to improve this we could make it look as if it is night time as this would make it seem more scary. We would also take more takes and from many different angles and ranges so we can choose the best.

Backing music for the final cut

I used spacey music for the intro to create the mood as it all seems normal to the viewer. Once the bad guy comes into the shot the intensity of the music increases. There is one point where the bad guy that the good guy is going to see him. After the situation is over the music goes back to less scary music as it is no longer tense. When the bad guy is getting closer to the good guy the music picks up in tempo, when he is getting ready to shoot her the I put pulse music to raise the intensity so it would scary the audience. I put in the gun shots into the music as we used BB-guns in the filming so they don't make enough noise. As soon the victim is dead I put in some remorse music to make the audience is upset about the good guy dieing.

Usual suspects Analisis

The 'Usual suspects' thriller opening shows example of the visual element of darkness. Also it shows you the character types of submissive, dominance. There is a use of a weapon and fire as examples of visual imagery. The sound in it is quite eerie, which adds to the tension and mystery of the opening sequence. The Characters in the opening sequence you can tell are bad because of the lack of panic, and the friendly communication between the murder and victim. Lastly the opening sequence to 'Usual suspects' shows you a wide range of visual cinematic, along with sound witch gives you a successful opening to what looks like a very good thriller.
